Do you have personal branding? Are you in direct sales?  Do you have a product or service  that you sell  one on one or at parties?  If so, then you are an independent representative for a company. While you may think that that is your brand, it actually isn’t. Let’s talk about personal branding, The Brand of You.

 

People do business with those that they know, like and trust. What do your customers know about you and why do they do business with you? They make like your products but there is something about you that makes them want to purchase from you or from one of your parties or events. Perhaps you were likeable, honest or made a connection.  Perhaps you offered a solution to a problem they had. In both cases, those are outcomes of The Brand of You.

We are all part of the hundreds of millions of Facebook users out there. We are Facebook “friends” with hundreds or even thousands of people. Everything a potential customer can see on your personal Facebook page is all part of your personal brand, The Brand of You. I’ll save the what not to post for another day but for now I’ll focus on what you should do in order to increase your exposure. The Brand of You.

You likely spend a lot of time on Facebook and read a lot of posts and comments. Whether it’s a mom asking about school supply lists or a friend sharing a recipe, we interact with many people in a given day. From time to time, we want to know who that person is behind the post or comment (don’t deny it, we all do it). We click on their name to learn more. And then nothing. No hometown. No job title. No business name. This is a lost opportunity. Worse yet? Some have their title as “Independent Consultant at Company A” with a link to the corporate Facebook page! When you do that you are essentially sending your customers out into the universe and as far from you as possible.

Are you in business to send customers to the corporate site? I didn’t think so.

Did you know that you can edit that about section of your Facebook profile to direct your customers to your Facebook business page? Whether you just started your business today or ten years ago I implore you to head over to your personal Facebook page right now and make sure both your title (and please use spell check!) and the link to your business page are visible for all to see regardless of whether or not they are your Facebook friend or not.  This section should be set to public in your personal settings. Let your personal branding work for you 24/7.

 

That first impression of your page is what customers have to go on before they begin a dialogue or relationship with you. That is your personal branding. I want you to put your best foot forward and show the world that you are someone they want to work with! This simple action can help to build your online presence and The Brand of You.
